Onome at Self-Help Swap

Self-Help Swap was an event that invited participants to swap self-help items with one another or take items at no cost. The gathering, organized by 2009-10 A.I.R. Gallery Fellowship Artist, damali abrams, was be held on June 10th, 2010.

Self-Help Swap was an opportunity for the public to trade in self-help items they no longer needed and take new ones. The public was invited to bring books, magazines, tapes, DVDs or CDs related to finances, health, relationships, abuse, or any form of general self-improvement material. At its core, Self-Help Swap is a performative effort to highlight how self-awareness can enhance
community-building efforts. This communal interaction was based upon historical precedents such as the Black Panthers’ free breakfast programs for children and Feminist Consciousness-
raising groups. The event is also a reminder that even in challenging economic times, money is not always needed in
order to acquire new (self) knowledge.

Self-Help Swap took place during abrams’ solo exhibition at A.I.R. Gallery, Autobiography of a Year. This four-channel video installation consists of daily video diary entries and video documentation from each day of 2009.

what is a personal development class?

I am in the 8th grade now and i’m taking a personal development class, I just wanted to know what it was about.

You’re right to wonder what this class means, because it could mean a lot of different things. It depends a bit on what approach your school and/or teacher choose for the class. "Personal Development" is sort of a catch-all term for anything that makes you a better person.

Some topics that may (or may not) be covered could include:

* How to study well or be organized
* How to cope with changing classes, schedules, etc. in high school
* How to cope with peer pressure, frustrations with your parents, or other teen issues
* What are your personality traits, skills, gifts? Get to "know yourself"
* What type of career should you consider?
* How to handle money
* Health issues: drugs, anorexia, sex ed, organ donation, acne, showering after PE, etc.)
* Dealing with your emotions (anger, sadness, grief, etc.)
* Watching cheesy videos on any of the above topics – then discussing or journaling about them.
* Trying out new skills = archery, cross-stitch, photography, line dancing, or whatever else they dream up to "develop" you
* Anything else the principal, superintendant, or school board decided kids should learn that doesn’t fit neatly into an academic class.

This class could really be anything from a study skills class to a social skills class to a health class.. or any combination thereof. You will have to get the real scoop from your teacher. Good luck!

Self Cleaning Oven – Help?

I have a gas stove/oven and am wondering the on the do’s and don’ts of self cleaning. First off I have a broiling pan that came with the stove, it’s the same material as the inside of the stove and is a pain in the ass to clean, can I keep that in the stove while the self cleaning happens? It isn’t all that dirty but I want to do the self clean anyway, so how long will I need to set the timer for? And can I leave the home while it self cleans to avoid having to deal with the burnt smell? Oh! The stove top burners, super dirty as well, can I put them in the oven to burn off the residue!? (This was a foreclosed home)

Nothing should be left in the oven. The clean time for the oven is based on how dirty it is. Look for a website for the brand of your oven. You might find useful tips there even if it is an older model.
Try soaking the the other things in hot soapy water and get some Barkeeper’s Friend, which you can find where you would find Ajax or Comet typically. It cleans almost everything, although you will need a bit of elbow-grease too!
