I play the flute and i go to lessons once a week
i have a really great and nice teacher.
but for some reason when i go to lessons all my self confidence just dies
and i play horribly or pretend i can’t play
and purposely play bad…
i don’t know how to stop myself from doing it
and it’s starting to get really annoying…
any help or advise please
OK as someone who actually LIKES performing in public here are my suggestions,
1. relax, quit thinking about whose watching and just play if you play fine in your room, picture yourself in your room and play.
2. Practice the best way to develop confidence is to practice until you just know you got it grill it in grill it in grill it in and when you think you’ve got it perfect prove it an do it again If you know you got it you’ll be more confident.
3. Practice by yourself by pretending to be in public, when you practice on your own pretend to be in public imagine the crowd, our teacher o whoever you are usually in front of, seems like a little bit of a paradox from step one but if you do step 1 and 3 here you’ll be prepared to play anywhere.
Good Luck and God Bless
