While this substantial work is comprised primarily of narrative stories, each section of the book begins with a poem or “song” sung by one of the four flowers. This “song” is called “Song of the Iris: Rainbow.” The Iris is the teacher of the “Principle of Receiving”, which encompasses attributes such as allowing, cherishing, gratitude and elegance. Does self-harming help?

Quite a weird question, i haven’t self harmed but i have friends that have for various reasons, i would like to know does it help in anyway when i asked my friends they said it didn’t help it made it worse, but you guys may have different opinions.
Thanks form your answers, i apprciate the nicer answers, but i am NOT a knucklehead whoever said that i was just wondering because we dont all have the same opinions

that’s a tough question… no easy answer… let’s say i have a friend (or it coulda been me in my teenage years) who was known to cut… all the doctors wanted to make a case study of her… they asked her a million questions… her friends didn’t understand, her classmates didn’t understand, her family certainly didn’t understand, maybe even she didn’t understand, but the doctors wanted to understand- she could never get around to giving a straight answer… they say the pain releases endorphins, and that can be pleasurable, but that probably wasn’t it… she had hundreds of scars on her arms mostly, surely she had a reason… it wasn’t for attention-she hid it from everyone but the doctors, they asked her if she was punishing herself, that wasn’t it she said. she said she practiced cutting as an alternative to suicide and that was true… still even she didn’t know why (in that respect it helped i suppose)… but when she grew up she had to explain those scars to everyone- her employers, new friends, customers, long lost cousins, etc… and very soon she will have to explain them to her children and they will probably ask the same thing and she will tell them no, it doesn’t help- never ever do it… even though it kept her alive for awhile when she hurt so much her heart shut down, when the physical pain was so much easier to deal with than the emotional pain.
